Workshops

Experience the workshops at INTENTION

Workshops are one of the places where Intention really gets to show off its heart and showcase our community's gifts!

A big part of the culture of Intention is creating a safe place where people can explore their self-expression. Get vulnerable or silly or do something new and exciting, digest it all over meals with new friends, then shake it out and integrate it on the dance floor!!

Collage Art & Vision Boarding  - Kate Ferguson

"So popular that people started asking me again if I will host it since August this year. Flip through a collection of Vintage Vice and other magazines as well as bits and bobs I’ve collected throughout the year. Either pick out images and text you find fun and inspiring, after collating we can make sense of what it all means- what you might be looking for in the new year for the new you. Or, choose a background and make collage art! The weirder the better, imho. This is an extremely loose crafting event with a bit of pseudo-therapy on the side. Not really appropriate for kids, due to the nature of the material. "

facilitator bio: K8 is a multimedia and textile artist living in Vancouver. Kate fills her time by creating wearable art and jewellery, babysitting, and teaching sewing lessons in her home. Kate’s background is in film, Tv and theatre encompassing set decoration and costume design and making.

Urban Food Security! Taking Control of our Food. - Kai Bouris

We’re all feeling the impact of rapidly rising costs and decreasing nutritional value of urban food. On a global level, the “hidden” costs of the global agribusiness can be summed up as - colonialism at its worst. Slave labour, loss of soil, biodiversity and habitat, and polluting of our bodies and the Earth with toxic chemicals are the foundations of the global food industry. It’s only going to get worse. The solution. Working as a community to take back control of all aspects of our food. That includes building soil, practicing intensive urban gardening with the land that we have right now, re-learning the food preservation techniques of our ancestors, buying collectively from ethical sources, and most importantly cooking and sharing food in community. In this workshop, Kai will share some of his successes and failures in creating an urban farm. We’ll also brainstorm doable action steps and start making an urban food security plan that will support us right now with the resources we have at hand.

facilitator bio: Kai Bouris comes from farming roots on both sides of his family. He's been running an urban farm and food security collective home in North Vancouver for 4 years.

(Mycological) Examination of Ancient Tales  - Kate Ferguson

"We all know the story of Rumpelstiltskin, but if you’ve read it recently as an adult you might find yourself asking “what in the f@*k was that about?” Analysis suggests these ancient tales repeated in cultures all around the world, some as old as 4000 years have some primal meaning for humanity. When we untether from the restraints of the physical human experience we can gain insight, connecting with knowledge not usually available to the everyday mind-body format. Participants come “having had” -lounge on the carpet or roam quietly around the room while being read ancient fairy tales, followed by a short theosophical and sociological conversation after each one. Trip-sitters and children are welcome, though parents should be prepared for some potentially odd behaviour. Facilitator will be “sober” but will be focused on storytelling, not individual facilitation of the experience. Participation in conversation is not required, just enjoy being read to if you like. "

facilitator bio: Kate is a 40 year old disaster artist currently navigating the most difficult time of her already difficult life, where every single step of this hero’s journey seems fraught with the risk of total annihilation. Watch this space for future bodhisattva vibes.

Tarot Reading  - Kate Ferguson

I would like to offer Tarot readings one morning of Intention. Each reading takes approximately 20 minutes, using a simple 3 card spread asking one question. This is not really a workshop but an offer of a gift for up to 6 people. It would be helpful if it could go in the workshop guide both for booking a space and letting people know that it’s available.

facilitator bio: Kate is not a professional tarot reader and still learning the cards, but in many years of practicing and reading for others there have been only 3 instances where readings have not come out as expected. In the first, it quickly became apparent that the recipient actually had been thinking of a different question than the one spoken aloud. Once that was revealed by the cards the story being woven was suddenly absolutely clear. In the other two instances the recipient was not able or willing to participate in the kind of intimacy required to turn out a reading. Come ready to bare a part of your soul to the process, and together we open in receptivity to the messages being given.
