Location and General Info

Here is a copy of the email that was sent to all ticket holders, minus the location. You can find this by searching for info[at]intentiongathering[dot]org in your email.

Hello to all registered participants of Summer Intention 2023!

This is the email you've all been waiting for, the one that says "you're officially registered for our gathering under the sun and stars, in an enchanted forest."

That means us, at Robert's Creek starting this Friday!

This email contains directions and other important info. Please read it all carefully, and look for any additional emails. Please also check up with your registered friends and make sure they got this too, as hungry spam filters sometimes eat emails.

TICKETS & GATE TIMES

Please bring photo ID ready to show at gate. We'll have a list of your names. You can bring your PayPal email receipt if you like, but this isn't necessary (note that there's no phone data on site, and only patchy signal for texts.)

Please don't arrive before 4pm on Friday. Gate will likely run until midnight then again on Saturday, starting approx. 10am. It's right by the central gathering area, so if there's no gate volunteer present please ask around for an organizer.

RIDESHARE

Here's the rideshare board - if you have space in your vehicle PLEASE consider bringing someone else along!

TRANSIT DIRECTIONS & OUR SHUTTLES

There'll be a volunteer-run shuttle service that lines up with public transportation. It will do pick-ups from the Roberts Creek General Store, so from Langdale ferry terminal you'd catch the #1 bus (not the #90). Here's a schedule for ferries, buses and our shuttles.

LOCATION AND DRIVING DIRECTIONS

See email for this.

PARKING NOTE:

There is absolutely no parking on the property, only on the logging road below. If you keep your car above the logging road other than for loading and unloading -- 15 minutes -- we will have to tow you and we really don't want to do that. Please park along the logging road, across from the driveway you went up to drop your stuff off. This logging road isn't wide enough to accommodate cars parked on both sides of it, so park on the same side as the other cars.

Trucks and emergency vehicles need to get through that road (particularly if there is a fire) and so it is VERY IMPORTANT that everyone parks on the same side, and leaves the other side of the road totally clear.

IMPORTANT: camping in/with your vehicle on the site is not possible, you will be dropping your stuff off in the main area but then parking back on the logging road. If you park down on the road and choose to camp in your vehicle, that’ll work!  It’s not a busy road, and not far from the gathering areas (approx. 5 to 10 minute walk)

There is VERY LIMITED space for RVs/vans for people who MUST camp in them (e.g. people with mobility issues), please contact info[at]intentiongathering[dot]org ASAP to check in with us. There will also be some vehicle space in the separate family camping area, by arrangement with the family pod volunteers at family[at]intentiongathering[dot]org .

ABOUT THE SITE

Here are the logistical things that you need to know about our site. We also suggest reading https://intentiongathering.org/summer_2023/location

WATER - There is a creek on-site, but drink it at your own risk, we recommend boiling it. Kitchen Pod will provide a large pot of boiled water at some times, please ask them first though. We advise you to bring your own drinking water with you.

FOOD - This year we're offering a self-serve brunch (cereals, fruit, etc.) and cooked dinners. As we won't be providing three full meals, please bring your own food and drink. If you can bring food to share, that would be greatly appreciated as part of the co-created community nature of Intention.

FOOD STORAGE - Remember, there are bears in the forest, so don't keep food in or near your tent. Please keep sealed containers around the edge of the kitchen, leaving room for and not blocking others. A good place for coolers is partly submerged in the creek behind the kitchen, with a large rock on top to deter raccoons.

COOKING - Please, no cooking anywhere except in the kitchen area, and no open flames of any sort outside of the kitchen area!  This is an explicit request from the landowner.  (There is a designated smoking area with a water hose handy, open flames are allowed there too. The family camping area may make a separate arrangement.)

There's a "DIY Meal Prep Area" right next to the central "Kitchen Pod Area", which is only for centrally provided meals. If necessary, bring your own stove, and mark whether it's shareable or for your use only; if the latter, please put it away after use. There will be some shareable stoves, both propane and butane.

BYO meat - the meals are vegetarian with vegan options, if meat is a part of your diet that is fine, but you will need to cook it yourself (and no “meat shaming” please!)  If you are planning on cooking meat we suggest that you bring your own frying pan etc. for this, or borrow from someone else who is also cooking meat.

COFFEE is considered a "treat" / "personal item" and is NOT included!  If you are a big coffee fan, we suggest that you bring some of your own.  TEA - the same!

A more complete version of food/cooking/kitchen topics is at the bottom of this page: https://intentiongathering.org/summer_2023/pods/kitchen

TRANSPORT REQUESTS - we need volunteers to bring up some food and regular 20lb propane tanks, please email volunteers[at]intentiongathering[dot]org

CAMPING - We'll share where you can camp when you check in at gate, there's lots of space. For those who know the site, there's no camping in the upper field this year. Don’t forget you’ll need to bring lots of things to be comfortable and happy, you can check out some suggestions at https://intentiongathering.org/summer_2023/whattobring

CONSENT CULTURE - Intention is a consent positive culture and we encourage those values wherever we can.  Intention is also co-created so we'll ask you to take on volunteer shifts in order to help keep the event community-based and keep the cost of tickets low.

LEAVE NO TRACE - We hope to leave the land better than we found it. Please support Intention in being a Leave No Trace event.

QUESTIONS?  Email info[at]intentiongathering[dot]org and we'll do our best to answer.

We're looking forward to seeing you all soon,
Tom (on behalf of the Intention organizing volunteers)

LOCATION

Not far from Robert's Creek on the Sunshine Coast.

Exact directions will be released closer to the date.  Watch for an email with detailed directions to finding the location.

- BC Ferry fares (save on fares with an Experience Card or someone else’s) https://www.bcferries.com/files/fares/pdf_format/BCF_Fares.pdf

- BC Ferry departure, arrival and service notices for Sunshine Coast (be sure to select the correct date just above the schedule) http://www.bcferries.com/schedules/mainland/vasc-current.php

Please note bus and ferry times often change this time of year, so please make sure you are looking at the correct schedule!

RIDESHARE

Intention works as a community to get everyone and all their stuff to Intention and back. This means people who have cars help where they can if they can manage it, people who need rides arrange them early and everyone communicates about any changes in plans.

If you need a ride or have  a ride to offer, enter the details on the Intention Rideshare spreadsheet HERE!

Please remember to come back & update the sheet once your status changes!

SHUTTLE SERVICE

The gathering is very close to being totally accessible by transit (ferry and bus). If you do not have a ride, you can always ship your gear up with a friend, walk on to the ferry, and take transit to the Robert's Creek Store. From there, we have a shuttle that can pick you up at specific times.

Shuttle schedules will be included in an email to registered participants shortly before the event.  There will be pick-ups on Friday evening and Saturday, scheduled to meet the ferries with the highest predicted number of attendees.

(for full Bus schedule see http://bctransit.com/sunshine-coast/schedules-and-maps/route-overview?route=1

Shuttle service back to Roberts Creek for the return trip will be arranged on an as-needed basis, but if you took a shuttle to Intention, you WILL be able to get a shuttle back!

ABOUT THIS LAND

We would like to acknowledge and bring attention to the fact that the land on which we will be gathering is the traditional, unceded  and illegally occupied territory of the Shishá7lh (Sechelt) Nation.

We have tremendous gratitude for this land and everything that it provides, and invite awareness and consideration of how and why the people of the nation of Canada have access to all of its beauty and abundance.  We always strive to leave no trace and to protect the land where we gather. This requires everyone to take part in this responsibility.

The history of the various Coast Salish tribes here is about 10,000 years old or more. We encourage participants at our gatherings to self-educate about the history of the land we live upon and its original peoples.

This acknowledgement was written with support from Full Moon Medicine in Unceded Coast Salish Territories and former Intention organizer Sobey Wing (Intention 1 to 13).

CAMPING

Camping in/with your vehicle is not possible, you will be sleeping in a tent or other temporary structure that you provide, and dropping your stuff off in the main area but then parking back on the logging road.  If this isn't going to work out for you for some reason, please email info[at]intentiongathering[dot]org and we can discuss it.  There is VERY LIMITED space for RVs/vans for people who MUST camp in them, please contact info[at]intentiongathering[dot]org ASAP to check in with us.  There will be a wagon available to help transport gear from the vehicle drop-off area to the camping areas.

CELL PHONE COVERAGE (if that matters to you)

Cell phone reception at the location is spotty and works better in some areas than others.  If you walk just downhill from the gate then you will be on the network pretty much for sure.  Just do that every couple of hours and you should get all your texts :-)

ACCESSIBILITY

This site is on a hillside and quite rugged and rough.  All trails are dirt trails and most are fairly uneven.  Currently Intention doesn't provide wheelchair accessible washroom facilities at this site, and the terrain would be very difficult to navigate in a wheelchair.

We will have a few parking spots reserved closer to the eating, dancing and workshop areas for people who must camp in their vehicles, with preference given to those with mobility issues, but there is still a bit of a walk up a gravel road.

We would like to make our events as accessible as possible within the limitations of the venue.  If you have any specific needs (i.e. you would require wheelchair accessible washrooms), please email info[at]intentiongathering[dot]org to discuss with our organizers how we might make improvements.
